Shout out for the humanities entry from

CONTEST DATE: October 26 at 12:30 in the Smith Student Center (2nd floor)
If you plan to participate, you must register first. Please complete the online form by Friday, October 20, 2017.

event details:

WHEN & WHERE: Thursday, October 26, 2017 from  12:30-1:30 at the Smith Student Center, 2nd Floor Commuter Lounge.

THEME: Why are the humanities—e.g., the study of history, literature, languages, philosophy, art history, media history, and culture—important to you?

WHO CAN ENTER?: This contest is OPEN to all SRU majors and is FREE to enter.

SUBMISSIONS: Contestants will display/communicate how studying the humanities are important. Here are some suggested submission ideas:

  • Write a short essay (less than 200 words)
  • Make a video
  • Assemble an exhibit or portfolio of your photographs
  • Create a digital work (e.g., multimedia or interactive exhibit, story map, timeline, info-graphic, video game, etc.)
  • Make a poster
  • Write a song
  • Draw a cartoon
  • Paint a picture
  • Design something (e.g., t-shirt)
  • Write a short story or play
  • Start an Instagram campaign
  • Conduct an interview

CONTEST DETAILS: Submissions must be your original work. Individual submissions and teams are allowed. One entry per individual or team. Talk to your SRU professors about having your project count as extra credit.

WHAT WILL I WIN?: First prize is $100, second prize is $75,  third prize is $50. All winners will receive a certificate and be featured on the CPH's website and social media.

  • Dr. Dan Bauer (Dean, College of Liberal Arts, Slippery Rock University)
  • Karen Pierce (Director, Slippery Rock Community Library)
  • Dr. Joshua Drake (Professor of Music and Humanities, Grove City College)

HOW DO I ENTER?:
THERE ARE THREE WAYS TO ENTER:

  • PICK UP AN ENTRY FORM AT 300 SPOTTS WORLD CULTURE BUILDING.
  • DOWNLOAD THE ENTRY FORM HERE. SCAN AND EMAIL YOUR SUBMISSION TO PUBLICHUMANITIES@SRU.EDU, OR DROP IT OFF AT 300 SPOTTS WORLD CULTURE BUILDING.
  • FILL OUT THE ONLINE ENTRY FORM above.

Submissions are due by October 20, 2017 by noon.
